Battle: Los Angeles

I gotta tell you, after War of the Worlds [2005] I really am sick of movies about alien invasions. In fact, I think War of the Worlds pretty much set it off with its mind-numbing conclusion to the story. I thought they were done, but last year saw the release of an even worse alien invasion movie entitled Skyline. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about; it is unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.

And now we have Battle: Los Angeles (also known as World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles), one of those movies that gets you wondering why Hollywood hates the world so much since they can't stop thinking of ways to decimate the planet and the human race.

However, I won't be too quick as to write this one off just yet. I don't expect it to rise above the genre, but it seems like it does have a few things to offer.

Reasons to be Excited
1. It has actors, not just human props namely Aaron Eckhart and Bridget Moynahan.

2. If the trailer is any indication, it does have a different feel to it. Kind of eerie, instead of the usual CGI masturbation commonly seen in movies of this genre.

3. Aaron Eckhart has this to say about the film; he compared it favourably to The Dark Knight [2008], citing a grittier, closer-to-reality take on movies of this convention. What does he mean by that? I guess we just have to wait and see.

4. The title hints that they have a franchise in mind already, maybe we'll be seeing battles taking place in other regions? Battle: Kuala Lumpur anyone? No worries, we're always safe from any extraterrestrial attack.
