Coming Soon: Joseph Gordon-Levitt's

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one of those kinda underrated actors. Sure, he's not exactly a diamond in the rough or anything, with the television show 3rd Rock From The Sun [1996-2001] already made him a household name. But the dude could really use more exposure now that it's turn for actors born in the '80s to shine. After (500) Days of Summer [2009] and Christopher Nolan's Inception [2010], it does appear that he's starting to really make his mark with another two very interesting movies slated for release this year. Rumour has it that he also has been cast in the third and final Christopher Nolan Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises [2012]

#1 Hesher [2011]

Release Date : April, 2011 (Rumoured)
Director : Spencer Susser
Starring : Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Natalie Portman ♥, Rainn Wilson, Devin Brochu, Piper Laurie

There hasn't been much word of mouth going around about this movie, although it has been screened as early as January, 2010. What this movie is really about, I can't say for sure at the moment. But from what I've read so far, it might be one of those coming-of-age drama with Gordon-Levitt playing the role of a morally-ambiguous older brother figure to this kid. Check out the trailer.

I don't know if we'll ever see it here, since the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) gave the film an R rating for "disturbing violent behavior, sexual content including graphic dialogue, pervasive language, and drug content - some in the presence of a child". Which roughly translates to "No way, this is harommm!!" by the Lembaga Penapisan Filem (LPF).

But who knows, if the stars were aligned they might actually make a tasteful enough cut that won't disrupt the movie experience. Don't get wrong, I'm not saying those at LPF aren't worth jack shit, they have made some decent cuts in the past, although there's relatively few of them, and far in between.

And here's a little something extra. A short clip of a scene from the movie.

#2 50/50 [2011]

Release Date : September 30th, 2011 (USA)
Director : Jonathan Levine
Starring : Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anna Kendrik, Seth Rogen, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anjelica Huston

Here's another one that could be just as good, if not better. A comedy about something we don't usually find reasons to laugh about; a twenty-seven year old man is diagnosed with cancer and the movie chronicles his struggle to beat the disease, with hilarious results.

At first glance, it does sound a lot like the premise to the 2009 Adam Sandler movie, Funny People. However, 50/50 is actually based on a true story of the screenwriter's own life, so it might make for a more inspirational movie. What I'm more curious about is how they're going to make it funny without leaving a bad taste in the mouth.

I apologise for not being able to provide any trailer or video clips. As of right now nothing of the sort has been released. But I'll be sure to properly update you on this movie as soon as I run into anymore details.
