Zoe Saldana Going Bananas in "Colombiana"

If I were to list down every tough chick flicks ever made I'd probably ramble on about everything from Lara Croft: Tomb Raider [2001] to the latest Salt [2010]. But you get that idea anyway if I put it that way, and guess what, here's another one to add to the list and it's called Colombiana [2011].

I know, the downside of it is that it kind of looks like a movie about the African-American Evelyn Salt. Heck, she even kinda look like her. But I'm going to give it a chance anyway because the  movie was written by Luc Besson, whom I am a huge fan of. Check out the trailer, there's nothing outstanding about it, but it doesn't look too bad either.

Zoe Saldana plays a character called Cataleya, who witnessed the murder of her parents as a child. Under her uncle's tutelage, she becomes a deadly assassin all the while she spends her free time tracking down those who murdered her parents.

I think casting Zoe Saldana is a rather odd, but daring choice because she is hardly a draw, let alone she isn't known for playing tough-as-nails characters. Just to refresh your memory, remember that she had previously starred in family-friendly movies like The Terminal [2004] and Star Trek [2009]. Needless to say if she couldn't be convincing as a cold-blooded killer, we wouldn't have this movie.

Release Date : September 1st, 2011 (Malaysia)
Director : Olivier Megaton
Starring : Zoe Saldana, Cliff Curtis, Michael Vartan, Callum Blue
